Trends, Hello! / Part One

Over the years we’ve seen some unique styles from shoulder ‘puffs’ in the 80s, a display of collar bones and arm lace in the 90s with fitted, open back, two piece gowns seen more recently.

So, what have we glimpsed this year when looking at gowns, styles, arrangements, colour schemes and the ins and outs of everything else? Now more than ever couples are wanting to put a unique spin on their wedding – something a little more, them. It is often the small details that make a wedding truly unique, here are some trends bound to affect your choices in the coming year.

Style – What will it look like?

Celebrity weddings such as the Royal’s and the Kardashian’s can have an enormous influence on brides-to-be and their expectation of their big day. We’ve narrowed styles down to English, modern or a tad traditional.

For an English affair, the garden party is perfect – think vintage lace and what you can do with it. Modern brides are opting for some punchy, exuberant colours amongst a finer palate. We're talking creams, white and ivory as the base with autumn orange, scarlet red or Caribbean blue for flavour. After some serious exploration it seems a twist on the traditional wedding is returning. A classic, extravagant affair toning the colour theme down, having a formal setting, lavish cakes, butlers and Champaign towers.

Flowers – What and where from?

Top Notch: The best of the best are in line for brides this year including peonies, roses, hydrangeas and tulips - romantic and elegant.

Homely: Garden goods of lavender, rosemary, mint, basil and anything with a divine scent will be on the uprise, not only for bouquets but table, chair and lighting too.

DIY Market Grabs: Visiting your local market may surprise you with an abundance of seasonal flowers allowing for the unique creations of your own arrangements. It’s cheap, in season and spontaneous.

Mix ‘n’ Match: Choosing a colour palate with an ‘anything goes’ attitude can work wonders. Adding paper, berries, pine cones and other delights into your floral arrangements can add the individual touch you may be after.

Invitations – Where the heck do I start?

Extravagant, photo bombed or created with love.

The Wow Factor: Ribbons, gems, glitter and exotic designs. This is the type of invitation your guests are bound to tell others about.

Photo Personal: As on birthday invites, photos are creeping onto the wedding scene. Couples are choosing engagement photoshoots, childhood photos or opting for selfies, quirky and creative alternatives on their invitations. Images are a great way to show your guests what they’re in for!

Create, Create, Create: Many brides want to show their creative flair, choosing to hand make the invitations. Handmade is definitely memorable, just keep in mind the size of your guest list when you get started!

With so many exciting elements to a wedding, we couldn't possibly cram it all into one blog entry! Next week, Part Two will look at the cake, colour, food, your wedding space and of course, the dress!
